For a long time, I said that I did not like margaritas. I never ordered them or tried to make them at home. I could count the number of margaritas I had tried in my life on one hand, but I had myself convinced that I hated them.

Then one day, I didn’t hate them. Well, it wasn’t that simple. It took ordering them occasionally when we went out for Mexican food for me to realize that actually, I loved margaritas. I was just terrified of them because omg! sugar! the horror!

Food fears can manifest in many ways, one of them being a self-proclaimed distaste for that food/drink. Of course we all have real preferences (I actually don’t enjoy whipped cream), but margaritas were something I never allowed myself to embrace fully because of my fear. Once I realized that and confronted it, enjoying a margarita every now and then was less stressful. I savored it more.

If you think you don’t like a certain food, I encourage you to reflect on why that is. Are you scared of it? Do you think you will “lose control” with that food? Or do you actually dislike it?

Margarita mix hurts my stomach, but a fresh margarita made from a few simple ingredients is my go-to drink of choice when we’re out. Bonus points if chips & salsa are involved.

I love this recipe for cilantro cucumber margaritas because the blended cucumbers add a refreshing “green juice” taste that balances out the sweetness of the Triple sec and the bitterness of the tequila. It’s the perfect trifecta of flavors! Cilantro adds a nice fresh kick.

If you’re looking to amp up your margaritas a bit, add a couple jalapeño slices to the blender with all the other ingredients, then top the drinks with a slice.
